Project update September 2025

South Australia’s first surf park is another step closer to reality with The Break Surf & Stay revising design and operational matters.

Updated plans are currently before the City of Onkaparinga. Recognising the level of interest in the project locally, nationally and internationally, the team at The Break has shared the following update and new project renders.

“Since obtaining our initial planning consent, we have been working to refine our plans in line with input from contractors and feedback from residents. The Break has now submitted updated plans to the City of Onkaparinga for planning assessment.

“We respect that process and would not normally make public comment while it is underway. However, with such strong interest in the project, we think it’s important to share where we’re up to. 

“The fundamentals of The Break remain unchanged – a world-class surf, wellness, boutique accommodation and hospitality precinct, centred around a surf lagoon that is powered by the latest Endless Surf technology. Our plans now incorporate lighting that has been thoughtfully placed to align with the low-lying built form, as well as updated opening hours that give patrons the flexibility to surf before and after work while minimising late night operations. We had previously planned to include a microbrewery onsite; we’ve moved that to focus on selecting great regional beers and wines for our beach club.

“The Break will be an exciting tourism drawcard for South Australia that complements the existing offerings of the region and benefits the local community. We’re encouraged by the countless messages of support we’ve received from surfers, families, residents, clubs and local businesses and we hope to have more to share soon.

“We now await the outcome of the planning process.”

With additional time allowed for this latest refinement and submission of plans, first waves are now pencilled in for late 2027 pending approvals.
